The Pomegranate – Myths and Mystery
The Ancient World knew the magic of pomegranates.
Biblical scholars say Eve tempted Adam with a pomegranate, and men and women have been savouring them together ever since.
The pomegranate was a favourite food of the gods of Greek mythology, while in Judaism its seeds are said to number 613 – one for each of the Torah’s 613 commandments.
The ancient Egyptians were buried with pomegranates in the hope of resurrection and King Cyrus, who created the mighty Persian Empire, was said to have wished for as many good generals in his army as there are seeds in a pomegranate.
Buddhists hold the pomegranate as one of three blessed fruits. And in Islam, the Koran describes a heavenly paradise of four gardens rich with, among other sensuous delights, the ripe flesh of pomegranates.
Isn’t it time you re-discovered the joy of this most ancient and celebrated of fruits?
